Not
all pets are created equal. Some pets have special dietary
needs that require expertise by a nutritional specialist to
ensure that the animal receives proper nutrition while supporting
the individual needs of the pet. To help best support your
animal needs Julia at Sedona Pet Supply has been studying
animal nutrition for several years and is working toward earning
a certification as an animal nutritionist. Weather your pet
is young or old, Julia would love to help you find a food
and supplements to best suit the needs of your beloved furry
companions.
The
following is a brief overview of the fundamentals that every
pet owner should be looking for when choosing a healthy pet
food:
The
most important thing that you can do for your pet is read
your labels. Knowing what is in your pet’s food will
help to ensure that your pet is receiving the best foods on
the market. First and foremost, no cat or dog food should
ever contain ingredients such as corn, wheat, soy or by-products.
These ingredients are often used as fillers in a pet food
and often times can lead to pet allergies and other health
issues. Corn, wheat and soy provide no nutritional value to
a dog/cat and are a cheap way to manufacture food. By-products
can be any portion of the meat source (beaks, hooves, feathers
etc.) in a food and often is considered to be the left over
unusable portion of the meat. Your pet food should contain
the meat source (chicken, beef, lamb etc.) as one of the first
ingredients in the food. If the brand of food that you are
using contains a meal (such as chicken meal), this means that
the muscle tissue is connected to bone and this provides a
good source of minerals such as calcium to your pet.
Providing
your pet with healthy high quality foods will help prolong
the life of your pet and reduce the number of health related
issues that poor quality foods can trigger.
